Style With Kate September 2012 Newsletter

So many temptations! So many delicious colours! So little time! Not so much money!!

The good news is that there are NO RULES about what’s in, what’s out and what’s on trend. The most important thing is to know the right colours and shapes for you. Start with your own wardrobe and you will re-discover garments you had forgotten! Investment pieces you bought in the past few years will work just as well now as they did last autumn.

So, it’s decluttering and recycling from past seasons, accessorising in a different way (ankle boots rather than high boots?) and mixing up garments and colours you might not have considered before.

If you are going to invest in some new items, follow our tips below on pieces that will last you through this winter and for many to come.

Make-up: the return of the eye shadow

Hooray! Make-up this season is about getting good colour on your eyelids. An easy way to update your look is with a couple of new eyeshadows and a lipstick or using new skills to get a current make-up look (have you ever thought of having a colour me beautiful make-up lesson?). Check the key shades for the new season such as greens, purples and metallics. A new haircut can give you an instant update too!

A forever jacket

With fashion turning more elegant, what better than a neat little jacket to smarten up any outfit. To make it an investment item you must get the best cut and fit for your shape. Don’t go for something that is almost good enough and don’t skimp on quality. Also, ‘matchy matchy’ (to use Anna Wintour’s phrase) is back. Match your trousers and your jacket or your shoes and your handbag and you’ll be ready for the new season.

A stand-out coat

When buying a new coat we usually take the practical approach, but your coat can define your whole look, so make it something a bit special. Get a great colour and try some new styles. Military and cocoon cuts are a favourite this season, but the most important thing is to ensure the style looks good on you.

A desk to dinner dress

How do you choose a good dress this season? Versatility is key. You want a frock that can be dressed up or down. A good investment dress can have a lot of usage. Even a dress from last year can be accessorised differently for a new slant.
